CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

What is Closed Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgeries can be performed with many different techniques thanks to the developing technology. In particular, the duration of the post-operative recovery process of the patients is considerably shortened. Closed rhinoplasty is performed by making thin incisions through the nose. The facts that there is no scar left after these operations, the nose looks more natural, the operation and recovery time is shorter have made it much more preferred by the patients.

How is Closed Rhinoplasty Performed?

Closed rhinoplasty surgeries are generally performed under general anesthesia. If there is no major problem in the patient's nose and the area to be operated on is less, a local anesthesia may be preferred. The operation takes approximately 1-3 hours. In this procedure, incisions are made through the patient's nose by using surgical instruments. With these incisions, the necessary interventions are made to the nose and the operation is completed with aesthetic stitches.

What are the Advantages of Closed Rhinoplasty?

In closed rhinoplasty procedures, the incisions are made through the nose. For this reason, the soft tissue and skin inside the nose are not damaged. The scar is not possible to be seen from the outside because it is inside. The amount of nerve cut in these surgeries is very low. Therefore, the patient feels much less numbness after surgery.

The nasal tip can be supported much better with closed rhinoplasty. The swelling that will occur after this surgery is much less than open surgery and lasts shorter. In this procedure, much smaller and thin incisions are made into the nose. These incisions are made with the help of surgical instruments. For this reason, the possibility of wound formation in the nose is very low. The recovery period of this surgery is shorter, more painless, and more comfortable. This surgery lasts much shorter than open rhinoplasty.

How Does the Post-Operative Process of Closed Rhinoplasty Proceed?

The duration of hospitalization after this surgery varies depending on the anesthesia given. If local anesthesia is given, the patients can be discharged on the same day. However, if general anesthesia is given, they are hospitalized for one day.

After the surgery, silicone splints and protective bands are attached to the patient's nose to reduce bleeding. Since the splints are breathable, the patient does not experience breathing problems. Additionally, the use of plaster and tampons is seriously reduced, and the patient experiences a comfortable postoperative period. Splints placed in the nose are removed 2-3 days later.

Aesthetic stitches put in the patient's nose dissolve spontaneously and do not need to be removed.

It is normal to have mild swelling and edema for the first 48 hours after the surgery. They disappear spontaneously. The patient can return to his daily life 7-10 days after the procedure.

For the first week after the surgery, the patient is recommended to use at least two pillows to lift his head up while lying or sleeping. It takes approximately 6 weeks for the patient to begin to recover. The patient can take a bath 3 days after surgery.

After the surgery, the patient should not do strenuous sports and avoid sunlight for two months. The patient should not wear sunglasses for about 2 months and should prefer a hat instead. Protective creams should be applied for at least one month to protect the nose from the direct effects of sunlight.
